During my architectural studies I had a chance to do a semester abroad at Technische Universität Berlin. Course “Deployable Narrative” offered a different perspective on a design process.
We were given mechanisms developed by other students semester before, and we should come up with a narrative that will use those mechanisms. Me and my team decided to use it in a playful way - we closed the dome we were given and used it as a modern disco ball, that could expand and fill up the space of a club when there are few people inside.
The idea was perceived enthusiastically so we focused on improving the structure and creating a prototype in a scale 1:3. We were working also on producing the prototype in polished metal, we got the material and prepared the files, however time constraints and tools limitations did not allow us to build a final prototype of this project.
I learned a lot during this design. It was the first physical prototype I have laser-cutted and built, so there were multiple iterations and each of them gave us another conclusion for the final design.
